Bed Making

Time to Train: 20 Minutes

Preparing for Bed Making:

  • Remove any filthy sheets from the bed.
  • Examine the mattress pad / mattress protector for any stains, tears, or damage. If it’s not straight, straighten it out and make sure the mattress and box spring are both level.
  • To avoid injury, adjust the mattress with your leg rather than your back.
  • Remove the mattress pad if it is stained.
  • Place a clean mattress pad on the mattress as follows:
  • Place a new pad on the bed.
  • Right-side up, unfold the pad and distribute it evenly across the bed’s center.
  • Any wrinkles should be smoothed out.
  • Mattress pads and mattress protectors available in a variety of sizes; make sure you get the right one.
  • Check to see if you have the right size sheets.
  • Do not use a sheet that is discolored or ripped. Place them in your basic linen bag right away.
  • Take three new sheets and four pillow covers / slips, depending on the size of your bed.
  • Getting ready for bed:
  • Pull the bed away from the headboard a little.
  • Spread the first bed sheet across the bed and tuck the bottom half of the bed in except for the four corners.
  • Pull the loose end of the sheet straight out, about a foot from the corner at the head of the bed, making a flap. Pull the flap up to the point where it is flat.
  • In the free section of the corner, tuck in.
  • Pull the flap out in front of you and down over the bed’s side. Fold the flap over and tuck it in.
  • Repeat the technique in the corner at the foot of the bed on the same side of the bed.
  • From the edge of the mattress, spread the second sheet wrong side up.
  • Place the quilt 6″ below the second sheet.
  • Cover the quilt with the third sheet.
  • Fold the second sheet over the quilt, as well as the third sheet, in a 6″ to 8″ fold.
  • Tuck the sheets tightly under the mattress.
  • Tuck the second sheet, quilt, and third sheet tightly together at the foot of the bed.
  • The corners, maitre.
  • Tuck the loose ends of the pillows into the new pillowcase.
  • Carry on with the rest of the pillows in the same manner.
  • Position the pillow on the bed with the tucked edges facing the center and the tucked flaps on the other side.
  • Arrange the bedspread on the bed so that it hangs evenly on both sides and at the foot of the bed.
  • If you detect stains or tears in the bedspread, notify the supervisor.
  • Smooth the bedspread to the head of the bed over the pillows.
  • Tuck the remainder of the bedspread under the pillow’s front edge.
  • Make the bed’s surface smooth.
  • Check for evenness on both sides of the bedspread.
  • Return the bed to the exact position on the side of the headboard.
  • The bed’s four corners are all mitered appropriately. The bed linens are clean and well-pressed. The bed must be firm.
  • The pillow is roughly 20″ long from the headboard to the bed fold.
